More from Oxford…

The bridge of sighs.

Since Oxford is really the star of this week of blog entries, I really feel the need to showcase it further.  So, here, for your visual delight, are some of my favorite scenes from Oxford.  All of these were taken within a few blocks of Magdalene College, where I’m staying.

I am so struck by the tight weave between religion and academia that is made manifest in these university buildings….each college has a prominent (and elaborate) chapel.  The scultptures, ornaments, and gargoyles are frequently religious in nature.  Saints, bishops, and holy men abound in every nook and cranny.  But, my oh my, isn’t it all lovely?

And where else, I ask you, could you find a taxi cab decorated with the Periodic Table of the Elements?!
